Nexus Airlines Soars to New Heights
Nexus Airlines is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious title of Domestic Airline of the Year at the Australian Aviation Awards held on Thursday 29 August 2024 at The Star in Sydney. This accolade comes just after Nexus Airlines celebrated their first birthday, marking a significant milestone in their mission to enhance air connectivity across regional Western Australia.

Nexus Airlines began operations on the 10 of July 2023, with a strong commitment to serving regional communities by providing regular, reliable, and affordable air services. Since their inception, Nexus Airlines has operated with the vision of being Western Australia’s first truly regional airline, establishing bases in both Geraldton and Broome, and connecting Perth to the Mid-West and Kalgoorlie, the Mid-West to the Pilbara and Kimberley, and the Kimberley into the Northern Territory.

Nexus Airlines Managing Director Michael McConachy expressed his gratitude and pride upon receiving the award:

“It is an incredible honour for Nexus Airlines to be named Domestic Airline of the Year. This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team, who have worked tirelessly to make our vision a reality. Launching Nexus Airlines during such a challenging time for the aviation industry was no small feat, but our commitment to connecting regional Western Australia and beyond has kept us focused and driven.”

This week we saw the Channel 7 Sunrise weather team vsit the Top End on their Big Things tours of Australia, The Big Boxing Croc in Humpty Doo won the viewer vote.
There was a great turn out from 5am to ensure the Sunrise team were made feel welcome, from a survival expert, to whip cracking, barra cooking, a visit to the pub and an amazing song saw Australia entertained for the morning.
A special thanks goes out to Humpty Doo primary school for bringing in the crowd and also talking about the history of the croc.

AUSTRALIAN TOURISM BUSINESSES RISING TO MEET CHALLENGES POSED BY TOUGH ECONOMIC CONDITIONS
The June 2024 quarterly business sentiment survey by the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC) reports that 52% of our nation’s tourism businesses are experiencing weaker activity compared to the same quarter in 2023.
The national survey, supported by Tourism Top End, cited economic conditions as the main contributing factor to the weaker activity businesses are experiencing. The survey further identified that decreased visitor numbers and forward bookings, staff wages and changes in visitor behaviour and spending are also major contributors to these weak economic conditions.
However, businesses that did experience growth cited introducing new products and services and increased digital presence as key factors. Programs such as our Quality Tourism programs are available to businesses to support them in enhancing their tourism products or services and improving online presence. Million Dollar Fish is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and this year
Home to the famous barramundi, the Northern Territory is widely regarded as Australia’s top fishing destination for hooking one of these iconic tropical fish species.

The Million Dollar Fish competition was first introduced in 2015 to boost visitation and to give fishos the chance to reel in prize-tagged barramundi.

Renowned as Australia’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish continues to grow in size and value with more prize-tagged fish released each year. Barramundi are tagged and released right across the Territory in five main fishing regions including Arnhem Land, Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine and the Tiwi Islands.
